Gel Nails

Gel Nails is my passion. After 30 years I have stopped doing acrylic nails and am pursuing gel nails. I love embedded nail art, 3D nail art, glitter and stones.

This is a custom polish I made today. I use bases and pigments from TKB. I named it after the client it was created for 😊

Christmas Draws Closer…

Christmas draws closer and business gets busier! The week is coming to and end which means one more week til Christmas. How can I sum this week up? 2 words. Red Glitter. We’ve been covered in it. Breathing it and surely eating it with our lunch.

The most popular holiday red, Ruby Slippers.

I have also started blending custom polishes for my clients. Gel and traditional. Gel is currently only a single application (until I find gel bottles wholesale) but the traditional polish is available in full size and mini.

2 different versions of the same green as above but in traditional polish.

It’s been a minute…

Since Covid started, I have neglected some of my responsibilities. I’ve started to label things as pre or post Covid. And honestly time just got away from me. Since my last post we have been updating the spa and adding new services. We revamped our pedicure room and our front room. I’ve brought in one of the best micro-current devices in the industry for anti-aging facial treatments, hydro/microdermabrasion and the Oxygeneo facial for deep cleansing and resurfacing. I’ve dusted off my beautiful seashells and started doing hot seashell pedicures and invested in a new, stronger array for detox pedi’s which allows me to perform the service right in the pedi throne.

I’m excited for the changes we’ve made. We have new nail stations in the front that are elegant, roomy, and functional. One of my favorite additions is Nigel (my co-worker named him), an iRobot device we rescued from the thrift store who has made my life so much easier.

Today I spent the entire day updating my website, added and removed som pages, updated our policies on Covid, etc. really looking forward to getting back in the swing of things. Florida was only shut down for 6 weeks but the past 3 years have felt like a fog had settled in around us. Let’s get pretty!

Disinfection and Sanitation

I am in the Beauty Industry. Please do not underestimate us. We take hours of training for this not only in our initial training but also in our CEU’s every 2 years. I have 32 years in this industry and in infection control. ❤️

Basic Skin Care Routine you Should Know About

Many people often ignore that the key to having healthy and good skin is oftentimes missing out on a basic skincare routine that you should be practicing.

It is understandable how people often tend to neglect the idea that skincare should also be part of their regular daily routine due to the grind of everyday work and living.

Basic skincare should form part of a person’s way of life since having healthy skin is also a good way to ensure healthy living, which also contributes to ensuring preventive measures against health-threatening conditions like skin cancer and other skin –related diseases.

The first skincare step to consider would be cleansing.

There are a lot of skin cleansers available on the market, especially drugstores, department stores and your esthetician in spas, salons and skincare centers. Awareness should also be the responsibility of everyone before even going through this process.

Take for example the importance of knowing your skin type, which is key to also knowing which type of cleanser to use.

This is important since there are a variety of skin types and subtypes that have appropriate cleansers. Using the wrong type of cleanser for the wrong skin type could cause more harm than good. Imagine using a cleanser meant for acne skin on someone who is dry and dehydrated. That’s a recipe for a compromised barrier.

Among the most common skin types are oily or dry skin, for which varying subtypes also apply, which affects the secretions of the skin’s sebaceous glands, causing either an over production or an underproduction of the skins natural oils.

When in doubt about determining your skin type and what cleansers to use, you may seek the advice of an esthetician to make you more confident about the cleansing skincare routine you are going to pursue.

A good next step would be exfoliation, but only once a week. This is the process by which dead skin is scraped off or removed from the outer surface, intended to clear the outer layer of the skin from prolonged exposure to dead skin cells that could impede the regeneration of healthy skin.

Among the most common exfoliation methods include microdermabrasion, derma-planing, retinoids, enzymes or chemical peels.

Microdermabrasion usually involves using either scrubs, for which most believe should be done once weekly. But make sure to use scrubs composed of tiny grains, since coarse grains could scar the outer layer instead of just removing dead skin cells. Professionally you can get a microdermabrasion using either medical grade crystals or diamond tipped wands to exfoliate and suck up the debris, or non-suction for compromises skin.

Retin-A, retinol, and retinaldehyde on the other hand, works by removing the top layer of skin cells, especially dead cells, and at the same time, promote the regeneration of collagen in the skin and works by preventing the rapid breakdown of the skin’s structural fiber causing fine lines and large pores as we grow older.

Last is a chemical peel, which is a process administered by a licensed esthetician, which provides better results compared to over –the- counter chemical peel treatment kits.

Chemical peels usually take an hour or so but can achieve maximum results of making the skin look younger and shave anywhere from five to 15 years off your face, depending on using recommended home care and package options.

The third step would be moisturizers and like cleanser they come in a wide variety for the different types of skin. All skin needs moisturizer . Let me repeat this… ALL SKIN NEEDS MOISTURIZER. When an oily skin person tells me they don’t use a moisturizer, that’s why their skin overproducing oil. And likewise an oily persons skin can be dehydrated and lack water. Dry skin lacks oil and dehydrated skin lacks water.

There are other things you could add to achieve perfectly healthy and beautiful skin, like serums, but this is about the basics. We’ll talk more about serums later.

Lastly, always make sure to apply sunscreen, especially when you are constantly exposed to the sun.

This is mainly so because the sun can add years and even cause the skin to dry rapidly, causing wrinkles and can even bombard the skin of dangerous doses of ultraviolet rays that can cause skin cancer.

It is important to be aware of these basic steps since skincare is more than just leasing the eye with aesthetics, but essentially so since basic skin care you should know about is also a key contributor to a healthy and productive way of life.

I use Skin Script rx in my treatment rooms and the photos here are in our marketing section. I use these as a visual example.

Avoid The Signs of Aging Through Proper Skin Care

Aging is an inevitable process all living things go through. In fact, the aging process is considered a natural cycle that everything and everyone must face. But the signs of aging can be delayed or can be hidden through proper skincare.

The skin is the most affected area when a person ages. When a person ages, the skin loses its elasticity that is why wrinkles and fine lines start to appear especially on the face, neck, and hands. Today, the most common solution people find is by developing a healthy skin care regimen and through the use of anti-aging products that can minimize—if not eliminate—the signs of aging. These anti-aging products are marketed and advertised to encourage people to control the early signs of aging such as wrinkles, crow’s feet, and other visible fine lines.

External Factors That Affect Aging

Before finally deciding whether to use these products or not, you must first know the external factors that greatly contribute to aging in order to avoid them. Here are the major external factors that cause aging and skin aging, it is up to you how to avoid these in order to maintain young-looking and vibrant skin.

1. The sun. This is the major external factor that caused aging. Experts say that aging caused by overexposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays is called “photo-aging.” In this process, the sun’s rays break down the collagen and elastin in the person’s skin that leads to the development of premature wrinkles and other facial lines. You can protect yourself from the harmful rays of the sun by applying sunblocks and sunscreens that has high SPF content. You can also wear proper articles of clothing that help protect your skin from the damaging rays and by lessening the time you spent outdoors especially when the sun is its peak hours.

2. Gravity. Science tells us that gravity pulls everything towards the earth. As people age, the effect of gravity becomes visible on the skin and affects its elasticity a lot.

3. Excessive smoking. Nicotine indeed plays a big role in skin aging. Studies show that smokers form lines and wrinkles sooner compared to those who do not smoke. Skin is affected by nicotine because it narrows the blood vessels in the outer layers of the person’s skin that is responsible for the reduction of blood and nutrients flow.

4. Several facial expressions. People have a lot of facial expressions. These expressions are quite inevitable depending on the situation they are in. Since facial muscles are used when people make facial expressions, this can lead to the formation of lines in the face and neck.

5. The sleeping position. Although it may sound absurd, improper sleeping position contributes a lot to the aging of the skin because it results in the visibility of wrinkles. A good skincare habit should include adopting a sleeping position that can veer you away from forming lines on the face or even on your body.

I can show you how to have beautiful skin!
